Electricity price report, October 2026

Cheapest generally available flat plan against the cheapest time-of-use plan on each network, from the 6 October 2026 snapshot. This report covers one date; it does not measure price changes over time.

One snapshot, network by network

This snapshot compares 14 networks, using 1032 generally available flat plans and 1408 generally available time-of-use plans. Each yearly figure is 12 kWh a day spread evenly across that plan's weekday prices, for 365 days, plus daily supply.

The cheapest flat plan costs less than the cheapest time-of-use plan on 1 of these networks. The cheapest time-of-use plan costs less on 13. 0 networks round to the same yearly figure.

The widest gap is on Ausgrid: the flat plan from Tango Energy (Everyday Easy) is $295 a year lower than the time-of-use plan from Flipped Energy (Freedom Switched On 2.3!).

On Endeavour, the highest single-rate uncapped feed-in in the solar sample is 5.5c from CovaU (CovaU Basics Residential Single), with a modeled bill of $1,938 at 12 kWh imported and 10 kWh exported a day. The lowest modeled bill on that network is $1,545 from GloBird Energy (GLOHOME Residential (Flat Rate)-Endeavour) at 3.0c. The higher feed-in costs $393 a year more, so it is not the lowest bill.

On Essential Energy, Ergon, Evoenergy, TasNetworks, the highest single-rate uncapped feed-in and the lowest modeled bill are the same plan in this snapshot. That is a result for those networks, not a rule that a higher feed-in is a lower bill.

This report covers one date; it does not measure price changes over time.

Methodology, sample and exclusions

Generally available plans only: controlled-load names, restricted names, blocking eligibility and EV-owner-only plans are left out. The flat and time-of-use bills use 12 kWh a day spread evenly over the weekday rates, times 365, plus daily supply. The weekday profile is repeated for every day of the year. Weekends, later seasons, discounts, fees, demand charges, controlled load and solar credits are not in that pair of bills. The solar columns use the feed-in calculator's scope: single-rate usage and a single-rate uncapped feed-in, at 12 kWh imported and 10 kWh exported a day. The usage rate and the daily supply charge on each solar row come from the same plan as the feed-in rate. A network is marked not compared when that solar sample has fewer than three brands. This report covers one date; it does not measure price changes over time. Sample counts are the rows behind each cheapest plan. Data date 6 October 2026. Common questions

What do the two electricity bills compare?

This snapshot compares 14 networks, using 1032 generally available flat plans and 1408 generally available time-of-use plans. Each yearly figure is 12 kWh a day spread evenly across that plan's weekday prices, for 365 days, plus daily supply.

Does a higher feed-in tariff win?

Only when that plan also has the lowest modeled bill in the solar sample. The table shows the two figures separately.

Can this show whether a price rose or fell?

No. One dated snapshot cannot show a rise or a fall. This report covers one date; it does not measure price changes over time.
